NSCF Level 5: Visualization & Calculation (10 weeks)
Instructor: FM Sunil Weeramantry
You cannot make good decisions unless you can see critical positions accurately.
In this course, students will learn to improve their ability to visualize and to see clearly several moves ahead without moving the pieces. Students will gain confidence that the position they are seeing in their mind matches what is played out on the board. In doing so, they will also learn to avoid the pitfall of the retained image. Clear visualization leads to more accurate calculation of both forcing sequences and non-forcing sequences.
It is expected that students completing this class will increase their ability to predict and accurately calculate longer move sequences. Upon completion of this course, students’ chess knowledge should correspond to a US Chess over-the-board rating of 1600+.
Students who have not completed Level 4 are required to pass a placement test or have instructor permission prior to starting this series of classes.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a series of classes. We will not accept students for a single class or on a pro-rata basis.
